Yardley Museum Preserves African American History for the Community

The Gather Place Museum, a nonprofit in Yardley, is preserving the history of the African American community.

The Gather Place Museum in Yardley is keeping African American history alive in the community, reports Nick Iadonisi at 6abc.

The museum is located in the historic African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, built in 1877.

Gather Place was created by Shirley Lee Corsey, the Executive Director and Curator of the museum, who wished to preserve the history of the church. The exhibit features information on a variety of topics related to Yardley’s history.

“We feature untold stories locally and how it connects nationally through reenactment, through lectures. We give tours and see how Yardley is just growing and growing,” said Corsey

Special events are frequently held at the museum, featuring reenactments with historical figures like Harriet Tubman.

On Fridays and Saturdays, locals can explore the exhibit from 12 PM to 3 PM. Groups can schedule private tours by appointment from Sunday through Thursday.

“We learn how we’re all connected. I just want to welcome everyone to come out and discover what we’re doing here,” Corsey said.
