A Bucks County church is preparing to receive an important grant, the money from which will be used to repair their historic property.

State Senator Steve Santarsiero will present a PA State ‘repairs grant’ worth $50,000 to Gather Place for the rehabilitation of The Old African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.), located at 188 South Canal Street in Yardley. The award will be presented on Feb. 17 at 1:30 PM.

The Gather Place Museum is located at the church. Built in 1877 by African Americans who crossed over the nearby Delaware River, the church is now a historic landmark listed with the National Register of Historic Places.

Now under the conservatorship of Shirley Lee Corsey, its currently open on weekends, (weekdays by appointment), and is actively being restored through charitable and individual donations, and grants.

During the months of February and March, the Gather Place Museum will be presenting ‘Harriet Tubman – Live’, a historical reenactment program and ‘Women’s Right to Vote’ ~The Early Pioneers of the Women’s Suffrage Movement.
