Gather Place Museum, located at the Old A.M.E. Church of Yardley, has announced its first-year anniversary celebrations, commemorating a successful year of community engagement, historical preservation, and cultural enrichment.

As part of the festivities, the museum is proud to unveil “A Place to Honor its Ancestors” featuring an honorary reflective garden bench and bricks installation, paying homage to the founders of the Old African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church of Yardley, established in 1877.

Shirley Lee Corsey, the conservator of Gather Place Museum, emphasized the importance of the museum’s mission in telling the stories of Yardley Borough, Bucks County, and Pennsylvania’s history. The museum not only preserves African American and Women’s History of the region but also sheds light on forgotten neighborhoods and diverse cultures that have contributed to the rich tapestry of the area.

Since its inception in September 2022, Gather Place Museum has been instrumental in rekindling historical connections, highlighting Yardley’s longest-standing family, the Derry lineage, spanning seven generations since 1790.

The first-year anniversary celebrations will culminate in the unveiling of the honorary reflective garden bench and bricks installation, symbolizing gratitude and respect for the founders of the Old A.M.E. Church.
