Pennsylvania ranks among the top three states for AI usage, training, and capacity building in state government, according to Code for America, writes Ryan Deto for AXIOS.
“In Pennsylvania, leaders have aggressively pursued workforce capacity building through training partnerships with Carnegie Mellon and InnovateUS,” states the national nonprofit’s report.
Alongside neighboring New Jersey and Delaware, Pennsylvania is pursuing a path promoting more efficient delivery of government services through AI.
“Pennsylvania really invests in state capacity building,” said Jennifer Thom, Code for America’s senior director of data science. “It has implemented ChatGPT use for state employees. That hands-on nature is something that stands out.”
The state has already attracted major investment in AI data centers, along with the power infrastructure needed to support them.
Earlier this month, approximately $90 billion in energy and technology investments from 20 companies were announced at the Energy and Innovation Summit. This includes Amazon, which plans to invest $20 billion in data centers in eastern Pennsylvania.
Philadelphia, along with Pittsburgh, is in a position to lead in the emerging AI economy. With over 3,500 AI-related job postings, the city was recently designated a Star Hub by Brookings.
