Amazon reported that it plans to invest $20 billion in Pennsylvania to develop its data center infrastructure, creating new campuses, including one in Falls, writes staff at Amazon.
This campus is one of many in the state that will be used to support artificial intelligence and improve cloud computing technologies.
This investment will generate around 1,250 new job positions for locals. Thousands of other opportunities in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center supply chain will also be created.
These developments are part of Amazon’s efforts to support U.S. leadership related to AI.
“This initial investment from Amazon will create thousands of good-paying, stable jobs as Pennsylvania workers build, maintain, and operate the first two data center campuses in Luzerne County and Bucks County,” said Governor Josh Shapiro.
Amazon has invested $26 billion in Pennsylvania since 2010, creating around 27,000 jobs throughout the state. The company’s investments also supported 37,100 indirect jobs.
The company will be partnering with Pennsylvania workforce organizations and schools to create training programs for data center careers. They are also working with K-12 schools to create programs related to STEM for students.
