Nonprofit to Distribute Free Clothing to Formerly Incarcerated at Event in Trevose

The Wardrobe, a nonprofit organization, is hosting an event in Trevose to distribute free clothing to formerly incarcerated individuals.

The Wardrobe, a nonprofit with the tagline “everyone – and everything – deserves a second chance,” will distribute free clothing to formerly incarcerated individuals during an Open Wardrobe event in Trevose on June 26, writes Molly McVety for the Philly Voice.

The monthly event will be held in conjunction with the store’s Returning Wardrobe program. The initiative provides ongoing access to clothing, career-focused training and other resources for individuals who have been involved in the prison system within the last five years.

Four additional Wardrobe locations will take part in the event, including Old City, Upper Darby, Kennett Square and Exton. Free toiletries will be available as well. Registration, which can be completed online, is required.

“I’ve seen first-hand how many people are released from incarceration with just the clothes they were arrested in, or what their family could bring,” said Mars Sharrock, program director with The Wardrobe. “Clothing is a basic need that is not reliably provided to re-entrants who are trying to rebuild their lives and communities after incarceration.”

The nonprofit usually hands out more than 300 items during these events.
