Tower Health secured $11 million from the sale of its shuttered Brandywine Hospital campus last month, according to county property records, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The buyer of the 67-acre Brandywine site was an entity affiliated with Regal Builders, a Delaware-based real estate firm.
The deal closed over three years after the Berks County health system closed the 171-bed Coatesville medical center.
The new owner’s plans for the site – zoned for commercial and medical services uses – are “centered around activating this space to fully serve the community, while also creating new opportunities for growth and development.”
Regal Builders is currently marketing space for lease, referring to its “collection of buildings” and 11 acres of land available for development in the listing.
Following last month’s sale, Tower Health said the move will improve its financial position by increasing liquidity and eliminating the ongoing operational costs from the shuttered campus.
In 2017, Tower Health acquired Brandywine, Pottstown, Jennersville, Phoenixville, and Chestnut Hill hospitals from Community Health Systems for $423 million. However, after years of pandemic-related financial losses, the system began closing facilities – first shuttering Jennersville Hospital in December 2021, then Brandywine Hospital a month later.
