Warminster Native Gary Martin Records Second-Fastest Indoor Collegiate Mile at Millrose Games

Warminster native Gary Martin records the second-fastest indoor collegiate mile at the Millrose Games, at 3 minutes and 48.82 seconds.

Warminster native and former Archbishop Wood track star Gary Martin ran the second-fastest indoor collegiate mile at the Millrose Games, with a time of 3 minutes, 48.82 seconds, writes Brooke Ackerman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

This achievement places Martin, who finished the February 8 race in fifth place, at No. 45 on the world all-time list and makes him one of seven Americans to earn a spot on it.

“[This record] is not just a year,” said Virginia track and field coach Vin Lanana. “This is all time. So [Martin] sits in the same sentence of Hicham El Guerrouj, the current world record holder in the mile… It’s an impressive performance for him.”

On February 10, Martin was recognized as the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association National Athlete of the Week and was named the Atlantic Coastal Conference cross country scholar athlete of the year.

For Martin, “it’s super exciting,” he said.

During last season, the athlete was a three-time All-American in cross country and received an honorable mention in the outdoor 1,500 meters. He was also selected for the first team in the indoor mile.
