Nonprofit Proposes New Pride Landmark for New Hope

New Hope Celebrates, a nonprofit organization, plans to propose an asphalt art landmark on West Mechanic Street to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community.

New Hope Celebrates plans to propose an asphalt art landmark on West Mechanic Street to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized groups, writes Michele Haddon for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The landmark, which will be introduced at the next borough council meeting on January 21, would feature the colors of the progress pride flag. If approved, it would serve as a visual representation of diversity, acceptance, inclusivity, and unity.

“This installation will become a landmark that embodies the spirit of acceptance and inclusivity at the heart of New Hope, reflecting the values that make our community so special and promoting New Hope as a place where everyone is respected and welcome,” said New Hope Celebrates President Melissa Patterson.

The landmark would then be founded and maintained by the nonprofit organization to ensure there would be no financial impact to taxpayers and local businesses.

New Hope Celebrates’ annual High Heel Drag Race, a popular October tradition, takes place on West Mechanic Street.

To gather community support, the nonprofit has started an online petition ahead of the January meeting, which has already garnered over 550 signatures, many accompanied by words of encouragement from local residents.
