Pennsylvania Ranks in Lower Half Among Best States to Drive

Pennsylvania has ranked low on a list of the best states to drive in for 2025.

To the little surprise of local drivers, Pennsylvania ranked in the lower half of a recently released report on the best states to drive in 2025, writes Ashley Adams for The Keystone.

Financial planning website WalletHub placed the Keystone State at No. 36 on its Best and Worst States to Drive in 2025 list. To determine the ranking, WalletHub compared all the states across 31 metrics, including average gas price, rush-hour traffic congestion, and road quality.

Pennsylvania ranked No. 38 in the nation for both road quality and auto-maintenance costs. The commonwealth also came in at No. 37 for average gas prices, with the current price of regular gas around $3.35 per gallon, according to AAA.

On the positive side, Pennsylvania ranked seventh nationwide for traffic fatality rate as well as ninth for rush-hour traffic congestion. It placed No. 14 for car theft rate.

Pennsylvania ranked highest in auto repair shops per capita, coming in second, and in dealerships per capita, coming third.
