This month, the Trenton Thunder will take on a new identity as the Trenton Goldens, honoring their long-standing tradition of bat-retrieving golden retrievers, writes Jeff Gammage for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
On August 28, fans can catch the team in special jerseys featuring a playful golden retriever crest, a nod to the dogs that have become synonymous with the Thunder brand.
Since 2002, these furry mascots have captured the hearts of fans, starting with Chase, the first full-time bat dog, followed by his son Derby, and now Derby’s son, Rookie, with Dash as his assistant.
The bat dogs’ popularity has earned them national recognition, with appearances on ESPN, MLB Network, and even Japanese television.
In addition to jerseys, the Thunder’s team store offers various dog-themed items, including plush toys and apparel.
The Trenton Thunder continues to be a family-friendly destination, offering affordable tickets, special promotions, and, of course, the chance to see the beloved bat dogs in action.
