BC Cares Honors Local Students with Boomerang Awards and Scholarships in Doylestown

Nonprofit BC Cares gave out 12 Boomerang Awards and five scholarships at a ceremony at Doylestown Borough Hall.

BC Cares, an independent nonprofit educational foundation, gave out 12 Boomerang Awards and five scholarships at a ceremony at Doylestown Borough Hall last week to local students who embody qualities such as kindness, empathy, and respect, writes Ed Doyle for TAPinto Doylestown.

The awards were presented to students ranging in age from elementary school to high schoolers. Award categories included “service to others,” “interpersonal competence,” and “achievement motivation.”

The awards spotlight students who encourage and support their peers, help others with homework, and volunteer for both school and community organizations, among other things.

Winners received citations from the state Senate and the state House of Representatives, as well as Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick’s office.

The event was attended by State Rep. Tim Brennan from Doylestown, who presented the organization with a check for $20,000 from a state grant.

The organization also recognized Stephen Albert, a longtime educator and board member who participated in the creation of BC Cares and the Boomerang Awards. Albert was an English teacher and administrator in Central Bucks School District for over three decades.

“Steve was an advocate for kids who otherwise would not have had one,” said fellow educator and past Borough Council Member Lou White.
