Philly is Home to Several of Pennsylvania’s Best Classic Restaurants
Philadelphia is home to several of the best classic restaurants in Pennsylvania, writes David Landsel for Food & Wine.
Situated in the former home of the dear departed Le Bec Fin, Vetri Cucina is one of the most sought-after bookings in the city. This 32-seat tasting menu-only restaurant is Marc Vetri’s return to where it all started after the famous chef sold his restaurant empire that he had built out of nothing.
Another great classic eatery is Fork, Ellen Yin’s pioneering Old City bistro. The restaurant opened in 1997 and still continues to thrive to this day. The establishment is dedicated to showcasing the amazing dishes of the Mid-Atlantic region.
Another entry on the list is John’s Roast Pork, a tiny takeout hut that can be found on an industrial zone close to the Delaware River. Open for nearly a century, the small space is always packed. Its slow-cooked pork sandwich topped with spinach sautéed in olive oil and provolone cheese is second in popularity to the legendary cheesesteak.
