Plans to transform the former headquarters of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in Bensalem into condos have hit an impasse.

For unclear reasons, plans to transform the former headquarters of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in Bensalem into age-restricted condos have hit an impasse, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Developer Len Poncia of Aquinas Realty Partners, who had previously announced intentions to start construction in 2023, has not provided updates despite multiple inquiries.

Bensalem’s Mayor, Joe Digirolamo, expressed his uncertainty about the project’s stagnation, suggesting economic challenges and tighter bank lending for large projects as possible factors.

The property has become a target for thieves stealing copper pipes and other materials, with recent police actions catching two vandals in March.

The redevelopment plan, named “AQ St. Katharine Drexel Estates,” was set to include 90 townhouses, nearly 300 rental units, and a 300-bed senior living facility.

Despite these ambitious plans, the future of this historic site hangs in balance, leaving community members and stakeholders in a state of hopeful anticipation.
