Julia’s resilience was particularly evident during last month’s PIAA finals, where she competed with a fever and still managed to claim the state championship title.
Her recent participation in the Tallinn Open in Estonia, one of Europe’s largest wrestling tournaments, marked a significant milestone.
Competing against international talent, Julia secured fourth place in the 108-pound category, contributing to the American team’s third-place finish among over 200 clubs worldwide.
Julia started wrestling at age seven and almost fell out of love with the sport due to feeling unwanted in co-ed spaces. That’s what led to her mother, Jodie for starting Misfits Wrestling in Bensalem.
This initiative stemmed from a desire to provide a supportive environment, a place where Julia and others could thrive without feeling sidelined.
The club has grown significantly, attracting dozens of young women.
However Horger says she still likes wreslting with boys. “It makes me tougher,” she says.
