William Tennent High School Girls Wrestling Team made history in December when they took part in their first tournament as a PIAA-sanctioned team, writes Dino Ciliberti for the Patch.

During the tournament, Yasmina Ergashova was the first one to record a takedown and back points, as well as a fall. Brianna Rodriquez recorded the fastest fall of the day at 0:34 seconds.

The first championship match was won by Anjaleen Siddiqui, while Alyssa Crespo came in second.

The girls ended the tournament in fourth place out of 14 teams with 81 points.

“The William Tennent’s Girls Wrestling team is one of many examples of schools in the nation now promoting girls’ wrestling and gaining attention,” said William Tennent High School student Teagan Noll.

On January 17, the girls took part in their first official dual meet at Cheltenham, where Karina Pavlichka won by pin. They also recently competed in the first girls D1 and D12 Districts.

“The blood, sweat, and tears that have been put into this sport showcase the effort the girls dedicate to this sport,” Taylor Mazzoni, a senior wrestler on the team.
