Montgomery County Among Top Five Counties for Economic Mobility Opportunities in PA

By

Montgomery County ranked among the top five counties in Pennsylvania where children have the best opportunity for economic mobility, according to a new report from Stacker.

Economic mobility is an individual’s ability to move themselves and their families up the socioeconomic ladder throughout their lifetime.

A recent analysis of economic mobility was performed by the Wealth Enhancement Group using data from Harvard University’s Social Capital Atlas project, which drew information from privacy-protected dataset representing 21 billion friendships from Facebook.

The scholars scored counties based on how economically connected low- and high-income individuals living in the area have been historically over at least a decade.

Montgomery County ranked in third place with an economic connectedness score of 1.05, only behind Bucks and Centre counties.

The county has a population of 850,890 and a median income of $99,361.

The population is 77.1 percent white, 9.2 percent Black, 7.7 percent Asian, and 0.2 percent American Indian and Alaska Native.
