Citizens Bank is shutting down branches inside of Acme stores and various standalone sites around Bucks County, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Following the bank’s filing with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the branch inside of the Levittown Acme shut down at the beginning of the month.

At the beginning of the year, Citizens Bank also shut down the Newtown location on West Road. Citizens Bank has closed 44 branches since June 30 of last year, which includes a freestanding location in Willow Grove in Montgomery County, and a site in Warminster.

The downsizing of Citizens Bank branches regionally is due to the uptick in online and mobile banking.

Shuttered locations in supermarkets will be replaced with Virtual Assistants.

Following the closures of regional locations, Citizens Bank will have 134 local branches.
