Warrington will install red light enforcement cameras at two intersections on Route 611, making it the first town to do so in the county.

Warrington will install red light enforcement cameras at two intersections on Route 611/Easton Road, making it the first municipality in Bucks County and the third in Pennsylvania to use the new technology, according to a staff report from TAPinto Doylestown.

The cameras will be installed by the end of the month at Bristol Road and Street Road. Citations will not be issued for red light violations during the 60-day waiting period.

The two intersections were selected for the program by PennDOT based on the high frequency of accidents, especially those causing injury.

PennDOT says that red light camera programs have so far proven to substantially reduce violations and decrease the number of crashes and accidents.

The township will not receive revenue from captured violations. The only goal is to make the intersections safer by ensuring drivers are deterred from violating traffic laws, said the department.
