Since December 4, Upper Dublin School District has had a new superintendent whose initial goal is to get to know everybody, writes Linda Finarelli for The Reporter.

Dr. Laurie J. Smith has taken over from interim Superintendent Dr. Marykay Feeley.

She said her short-term goal is “to get to know stakeholders, both internal and external, build relationships with teachers, students, and staff and with the township and other external organizations.”

In essence, she wants to “listen and learn.”

Meanwhile, her long-term goal is to make sure that the needs of all students are met and that they all have access to the best possible education the district can provide.

“I do not have other specific goals,” said Smith. “I want to learn and hear from constituents — what they’re proud of and what they see a need to grow.”

Smith has two decades’ worth of administrative educational experience. She served as an assistant to the superintendent and then was assistant superintendent for the Perkiomen Valley School District for the last seven years. She previously served as a middle school principal in the Upper Perkiomen and Northwestern Lehigh school districts.
