Lower Bucks Hospital Among Trio Potentially on Sale in Philadelphia Region

Prime Healthcare announced plans to convert Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol Township to nonprofit status by this summer.

Lower Bucks Hospital could be one of three regional hospitals that are on the market, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

A notice from investment bank Xnergy announced that three Philadelphia area facilities were on sale but did not name them.

However, the description matched up with the hospitals owned by Prime Healthcare Services Inc., which includes Lower Bucks in Bristol, Suburban Community in Norristown, and Roxborough Memorial in Philadelphia.

The notice says that all three hospitals are losing money and that the seller is seeking one buyer for all three facilities.

Lower Bucks, along with Roxborough, was acquired by Prime in 2012.

Nurses at both Lower Bucks and Suburban Community hospitals are anticipating a potential strike starting Friday, amid new contract negotiations. The nurses are calling for higher pay, better benefits, and an increase in staff.
