The George School boys’ basketball team has truly come a long way in a short period, writes Josh Verlin for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Quaker boarding and day school in Newtown hired Ben Luber, a former Penn State guard, to run the boys’ basketball team four years ago.

In 2021, Luber strengthened the team with forward Kachi Nzeh and guards Christian Bliss and Dante Weise and the trio managed to change the course of the program.

The team captured a Friends School League championship last season for the first time in its history.

Even with some changes to the team after the three game makers graduated, the Cougars are among the front-runners for the Friends Schools League title once again this season.

“It’s a young group, they’re very coachable, they have different talents than our previous groups,” said Luber.

“But that’s the good challenge as a coach: You find a group of new guys and try to get them to play together by December and championship basketball by February.”
