Since joining Archbishop Wood cross country team last year, Gwen Hamilton won her very first Catholic League batch meet and every subsequent meet she participated in during her freshman and sophomore seasons, writes Melissa Hanejko for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Now, she is the holder of two Catholic League titles and two District XII championships. The one race she did not win is the one she passed on last month, but – being a huge Phillies fan – it was for a good reason.

“I had tickets to the Phillies’ playoff game so I asked my coach if I could go,” said Hamiton. “It was against the Braves and they won by a lot.”

Gwen Hamilton is now preparing for the PIAA Cross Country championships. Last year, she came in at an impressive No. 22 in the Girls Class 2A race.

“I’m very excited for states even though it’s a tough course,” she said. “There are a lot of great competitors in the race, but that just pushes me to work even harder.”
