The Bucks County GOP has two strong candidates currently running for county commissioner in Incumbent Republican Commissioner Gene DiGirolamo and county Controller Pamela Van Blunk, writes Linda Stein for the Delaware Journal.

The party is hoping that the duo will help it win the majority in the Nov. 7 election and defeat Democrats Bob Harvie and Diane Marseglia-Ellis.

The pair are focusing their campaign on local issues, such as public safety.

“Crime has increased significantly in the past year,” said Van Blunk. “We’re going to back our law enforcement.”

Serious crime rose in Bucks County by 18.7 percent between 2021 and 2022, according to the Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting System.

“Gene and I would like to meet with the law enforcement leaders regularly to hear what they need, what kind of assistance,” said Van Blunk.

Pat Poprik, chair of the Bucks Republican Party, believes the duo make a “fantastic team.” He also thinks that DiGirolamo’s time as chairman of the Pennsylvania House Human Services Committee is important.

“I believe Gene’s background with the opioid and drug issue is [valuable]; this is a problem we’re facing in this county,” said Poprik.
