The couple got married early so that the bride's mother could see attend.

Hannah and Jerry Novak changed their wedding plans to accommodate the dying wish of the bride’s mother, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

“We were originally planning our wedding for September 16, 2023,” said Hannah. “And my mom went into the hospital.”

Debbie Kay LoRusso, who was known for her big heart and her faith, was admitted to the hospital in September 2022 following a stroke.

“She had breast cancer years ago,” said Hannah. “She was in remission. It came back full force, metastasized basically everywhere and she had no idea.”

When she learned she only had a few days to live, LoRusso expressed hope to see her daughter get married. The family and the staff at St. Luke’s Hospital Upper Bucks Campus acted quickly.

“The morning of, my coworkers helped my mom get dressed and ready,” said Hannah’s brother Luke LoRusso, a nurse at St. Luke’s.

The wedding was in the ICU waiting room including floral arrangements, decorative cakes, and even a decorative arch. Luckily, they could organize everything even faster than expected.

“I’m so glad the doctors told us to push it up because she ended up passing away in less than 24 hours,” said Hannah.
