Police departments from around the county are partaking in the festivities.

A police station in Bucks County is working to improve their relationship with local youth to build better report with the community. Staff reporters from NBC10 Philadelphia wrote about the initiative.

A new trading card competition aims to strengthen the relationship between Bensalem Police and local youth by getting the youngsters to collect all the first responders

“You get to meet everyone that works in your town,” said 8-year-old Ava Okolrian.

Ava and her mother are determined to win the contest. They know all the shift changes and are making sure not to miss anybody.

“We’re gonna wake up early because we gotta catch the morning shift guys too, you know?” said Chelsea Capcino, Ava’s mother.

In the Bensalem Police version of Pokémon GO!, there are 103 trading cards showing police officers and firefighters. All the cards include bios and a message of inspiration.

“It is great to see the cops and all the kids out here interacting,” said Lieutenant Jim McGinty of the Bensalem Police.

The game is about more than being fun, though. The goal is to build stronger relationships with the community and break down the walls and barriers often associated with the police.

“There’s always that trust factor and there’s always that building of bridges that we want to build with the young people,” said McGinty.

Watch the entire segment at NBC10 Philadelphia.
