Bucks County is home to five castles, with a sixth one just outside of the county, and locals and visitors can now learn where they all are. Staff writers from Visit Bucks County wrote about the local castles.
Fonthill Castle in Doylestown is Henry Chapman Mercer’s former home. It features 44 rooms, over 6,000 books, and 18 fireplaces along with an eclectic mix of Gothic, Medieval, and Byzantine architecture.
The Mercer Museum, also in Doylestown, features 40,000 artifacts on display from the Industrial Revolution to enjoy on its six floors.
Mercer also built The Tileworks close to his home which serves as a working museum that produces handmade tiles and mosaics.
Sand Castle Winery in Erwinna is designed after a fortress in Bratislava, the home country of the vineyard’s owners. Here you will get the chance to taste some European classics like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling.
Situated just outside of Bucks County in Bryn Athyn is the former home of the Pitcairn family and is now a museum of religious art and history.
Finally, Kids’ Castle is a fantastic playground in Central Park, Doylestown, with several slides, swings, and a treehouse.
