If Bucks County’s Nearest Beach Is Still Too Far, A Doylestown Gallery Has Closer Sea Views to See

Love the beach but not the goopy suntan lotion? Or the increasingly expensive commute? Thanks to a seasonal exhibit at Patricia Hutton Galleries, sun-surf-sand views are much more convenient. Its Doylestown location is definitely closer to home than the 70 miles needed to get to Asbury Park, N.J., Bucks County’s nearest ocean view.

The gallery, which occupies the historic Kolbe House, has curated summery works in oil, watercolor, and pastel. Each piece in the “Summer Vacation” exhibition captures a water-themed destination, bringing a bit of the New England coastline to visitors.

For natural art fans seeking a look that’s less Cape Cod rocky and more Sea Isle sandy, there are works reflecting that aesthetic, too.

And several of the pieces capture Bucks County’s own waterways, rivers, and brooks — as well as meadows, parks, and farms for the landlubbers.

A visit to the gallery is a richer experience than merely browsing artwork. Hutton, the business’ namesake, has been a creative resource in the area since 1987. She gained her visual interest while studying abroad and honed it as a graduate student in Boston.

Hutton is a steady presence at the gallery and enjoys discussing the works she displays with visitors.

“Summer Vacation” at Patricia Hutton Galleries closes Aug. 28.

To delve deeper into ocean-themed artwork this summer,
it might be time for a budding artist to try creating a seascape of his or her own.
