Burned out and struggling with addiction as a loan officer for PNC Bank, Berwyn resident J.P. Weber turned to painting as a means for healing not only himself but also his relationship with his wife and three daughters, writes Kim Douglas for Main Line Today

Art therapy gave Weber the direction he needed to evaluate his emotions while creating beautiful artwork — an outlet which he has since turned into a career after being let go from PNC Bank.

“I didn’t have words to communicate (what was happening to me), so I made it visible,” he said. “It’s like it was always there — I was always under there.”

Now, he has sold more than 100 pieces around the country. His artwork has been displayed at La Cabra Brewing in Berwyn, Christopher’s in Wayne, the Chester County Art Center, and Bryn Mawr Rehab’s Art Ability Exhibition.

Weber’s wife Lindsey, his sweetheart from their days at Conestoga High School, has supported his career by encouraging him to sell artwork on textiles, tote bags, phone cases, and more.

“I want people to look at my art and think differently about themselves,” he said, “to see themselves and their lives in a new way.”
