A costumed coven of cyclists raised funds in Doylestown.

Bicycling and witches may only be linked by the memory of The Wizard of Oz, in which Dorothy’s nemesis, the prim Miss Gulch (and her distinct theme music), morph into a cackling, black-hatted broom pilot. But for the sixth year in a row, a coven of witches on bikes recently flew down State Street in Doylestown. The 2021 Women Bike Dtown Witches Ride was covered by the Bucks County Herald.

The ride was, for the first time, a fundraiser for charity. The record 121 riders on the four-mile course sent its $2,000 proceeds to CB Cares Educational Foundation, also in Doylestown.

CB Cares enriches the experience and education of students through innovative learning grants and developmental assets-based programs that promote responsible and resilient youth.

Several of the online caveats for the event were directed at keeping riders safe while having fun and supporting a good cause. Unique cautionary measures included:

  • Check that your costume doesn’t interfere with the bike while riding
  • Be sure to attach your witch hat to your helmet or under your chin (it is guaranteed to fall off otherwise)
  • Please test-run your costumes before ride day to work out any kinks
