Washington Post reporter Robert Costa, Pennsbury High School graduate from Lower Makefield Township, collaborated with journalist Bob Woodward on a new book, Peril.

It chronicles the transition from the Trump Administration to the Biden Administration. The two authors assert that that transfer of power represented “one of the most dangerous periods in American history.”

Costa and Woodward interviewed more than 200 people at the center of the turmoil, resulting in more than 6,000 pages of transcripts.

Peril is augmented by material from secret orders, transcripts of confidential calls, diaries, emails, meeting notes, and other personal and government records.

It is also the first inside look at Biden’s presidency and the political challenges he faced in the early days of his administration. They include the ongoing pandemic, its dire economic impact, and bitter partisan divides.

The authors took the title from Biden’s inaugural speech: “We have much to do in this winter of peril.

The publishers liken Peril to Woodward’s coverage with Carl Bernstein of the final days of President Richard M. Nixon.

Peril, by Robert Costa and Bob Woodward, is available in traditional book form and as an e-book on September 21.
