What Does This Coatesville Teen Want to Be When He Grows Up? A Pirate or a Lion?

Coatesville resident and athlete-extraordinaire Lonnie White Jr., a recent graduate of Malvern Prep, has a tough decision to make on his immediate future, reports Jamie Apody for 6ABC.

Earlier this week, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected the outfielder with the 64th overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft.

“It’s exciting,” said White. “I was nervous the entire time, waiting and waiting, and then it finally happened.”

The opportunity most likely comes with a signing bonus of more than $1 million.

However, White also loves football and is so good at it that he has already received a scholarship from Penn State to play both of his sports. Now, PSU football coach James Franklin has been texting his prize recruit to see what he is going to do.

“I’m not sure what I’m gonna do yet, but it’s very hard,” said White.

His mother, Regina, who recently defeated cancer for the second time, just wants to see her son happy.

“I feel bad for him that he has to make that decision. But he’s gotta follow his heart,” she said.
