Answer: This Local Former CBS Newsman Is Now Hosting ‘Jeopardy!’ Question: Who Is Bill Whitaker?

By

He’s guest hosting Jeopardy!

He’s a CBS journalist and a 60 Minutes contributor.

Bill Whitaker is also from Media Borough, and he’s not letting anyone forget it, writes Neal Zoren for the Daily Times.

Whitaker has made sure that Media Fellowship House receives matching funds equal to Jeopardy!’s combined winnings while he’s on the show.

It’s personal.

Media Fellowship House was founded in 1944 to promote fairness, understanding, and fellowship between diverse cultures and generations.

It helps low- and moderate-income families buy their first homes. It works with nonviolent juvenile offenders and provides scholarships.

There are also many programs and discussions in the community.

Media Fellowship House started after two African-American women were refused service at a State Street café.  Two white women witnessed the incident and invited them to have lunch with them instead.

The African-American women were Whitaker’s mother and aunt.

“You see,” Whitaker says, “my family’s relationship with Media Fellowship House goes back to the origin.”

Whitaker was born in Chester. He moved to Media when he was in kindergarten.

“I grew up next door to where the Fellowship House is currently located,” he says.

Based on Whitaker’s first week on “Jeopardy,” Media Fellowship House will receive between $150,000 and $200,000.
