Before most teenagers have figured out what they want to do with their lives, Brady Guzzie is already doing it—and doing it better than almost anyone in Pennsylvania, writes Mia Messina for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The 6-foot-2 left-hander junior at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School isn’t just a pitcher. Guzzie is the kind of triple-threat talent that makes college scouts circle dates on their calendars.
The numbers he put up this season are almost hard to believe.
Against Philadelphia Catholic League opponents, Guzzie posted a 0.61 ERA and a .373 batting average, racked up 105 strikeouts in just 57 innings, and threw not one but two no-hitters.
The league took note, naming him its Most Valuable Player.
Eagles coach Jeff Manto has seen the work behind the results up close. “He’s not a voice-first guy, but he’s extremely talented, and leading by example,” Manto said, summing up a player whose leadership comes through on the field and off.
With a year of high school still to go, Guzzie is already operating in a different orbit.
He regularly trains with professional and college coaches in New Jersey and has committed to play at the University of Virginia, one of the premier college baseball programs in the country.
Through it all, Guzzie keeps his focus squarely on the present. He steered Conwell-Egan all the way to the Catholic League championship game this season, and with one more year in an Eagles uniform, the state’s most talked-about recruit is only getting started.
