High expectations are building for both Holy Ghost Prep and Conwell-Egan Catholic High School as the 2026 high school baseball season unfolds across the region, according to a recent article in The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Holy Ghost Prep enters the year as a competitive, steady program capable of hanging with top teams.
Based on early results, the Firebirds show strong pitching and the ability to dominate weaker opponents, though consistency against elite competition remains the key factor in how far they can go.
Their profile points to a team that can stay in games and make noise if the offense delivers in tight matchups.
Conwell-Egan, meanwhile, carries one of the most intriguing storylines in the area.
The Inquirer highlights junior Brady Guzzie as a top prospect in Pennsylvania. The 6-foot-2 left-handed pitcher also plays center field, is already committed to Virginia, and is viewed by some as the best player in the state.
His coach, Jeff Manto, put it plainly: “Brady is so good he may not get to Virginia.”
The implication is real. Guzzie is already sitting at 89-90 mph, with projections putting him at 93-94 mph by next year.
In a recent Perfect Game showcase, he threw 70 pitches with 54 strikes, a command percentage that turns heads at any level. His changeup has drawn particular praise from baseball scouts.
Manto knows talent. The Conwell-Egan coach is a former Bristol High School star, a Temple Hall of Famer, and spent 10 years playing professional baseball.
When he says a kid is special, it means something.
Combined with a senior-heavy supporting cast and strong pitching depth behind Guzzie, the Eagles have the tools to compete in the Philadelphia Catholic League and make a deep playoff run.
Both teams bring different strengths. Holy Ghost Prep leans on balance and pitching depth. Conwell-Egan leans on top-end talent and experience.
