June is making its exit, and Bucks County isn’t letting it go quietly.
This weekend brings a perfect mix of things to do: outdoor hikes under a full moon, Broadway-caliber theater in New Hope, artisan sand sculptures the size of small buildings, and a few cold beers with live music if that’s more your speed.
Whether you’re planning the whole weekend or just looking to fill a Saturday afternoon, here’s what’s worth your time.
Returning Favorites
Stop by Peddler’s Village in Lahaska and you’ll find one of the county’s most striking summer spectacles in full swing. In case you missed it, Sights in Sand: An American Road Trip has turned the village’s open-air walkways into an outdoor gallery of towering sand sculptures, each one representing a different region of the country.
Master sand sculptors have been carving these since May, and the results are worth lingering over. The exhibit runs through August 31 and admission is free, so there’s no reason not to make it part of a stroll between the shops and restaurants.
Down in New Hope, the Bucks County Playhouse will continue its run of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific, a production that carries a bit of local weight. Oscar Hammerstein II wrote the show while living at his Doylestown estate, and the source novel came from James Michener, who was born right here in Bucks County.
The show runs through July 26, but if you haven’t caught it yet, this weekend is as good a time as any.
As Pride month comes to a close, the Doylestown Pride Festival will wrap its closing weekend downtown through Sunday. Those who want to participate before it ends can join the Pride Drink Contest by sampling specialty cocktails, beers, and other beverages at participating restaurants around the borough, then casting a vote online for the best one.
Outdoor Adventures
On Saturday evening, Honey Hollow Nature Center is hosting something a little different: a Full Moon & Fireflies Hike.
The program opens with a talk on fireflies before heading outside to catch and release them for a closer look. From there, the group takes a guided moonlit hike through the preserve.
Advance registration is required, with discounted pricing for nature center members.
For a more self-directed outing, the Bucks County Covered Bridge Tour offers one of the better Sunday drives in the region.
The county is home to a dozen covered wooden bridges scattered through the countryside, and the self-guided route strings them together with enough scenery in between to turn the tour into a full-day adventure.
A route map is available through Visit Bucks County, and the Bucks County Covered Bridge Society’s free mobile app adds GPS navigation, historical notes, and audio narration for each bridge if you want the full experience.
At 5113 Anderson Road in Doylestown, a “Huge Barn Sale” will run Friday through Sunday inside a preserved historic barn.
Antiques, furniture, vintage tools, collectibles, and home décor fill the space across all three days, and proceeds go toward maintaining the barn itself.
Live Music & Entertainment
Doylestown is the center of gravity for live music this weekend. Puck Live will host Liquid Courage on Friday and Sunday, with Class Act Band taking the stage Saturday at 8 PM.
Just down the street, Wineskin will perform an outdoor concert Friday evening on South Main Street for the kind of casual, warm-weather show that tends to draw a crowd without trying too hard.
Over in Newtown, Newtown Brewing Company will host the Mark Margolies Blues Duo Saturday from 6 to 9 PM. Blues and craft beer make for a combination that rarely disappoints.
Beer enthusiasts might also venture a little further outside county lines to raise a glass at Lost Tavern Brewing’s 10th anniversary celebration, complete with live music and food trucks.
Family-Friendly Events
Families have solid options across all three days. Solebury Orchards in New Hope has fresh blackberries and blueberries ready for picking — a simple, grounding activity that tends to be more fun than expected once you’re out in the rows.
For families with older, more active kids, Hellerick’s Adventure Farm & Mini Golf in Doylestown offers outdoor obstacle courses, climbing walls, mini golf, and fruit and flower picking for when the pace needs to come down a notch.
Nearby, the Bucks County Children’s Museum remains one of the more reliable all-weather options in the county for the under-10 crowd.
Its hands-on exhibits cover science, engineering, art, and imaginative play, and it’s open all weekend.
More to Explore
Sunday afternoon has a few quieter options worth noting.
Crossing Vineyards and Winery in Washington Crossing is hosting a wine, cheese, and charcuterie pairing experience.
Guests can enjoy ten wine samplings alongside artisanal meats and cheeses for a flat rate of $40 per ticket.
Collectors can close out the weekend at the Just Another Card Show at the Sheraton in Langhorne.
Vendors and enthusiasts will gather to buy, sell, and trade Pokémon cards, trading card games, and other collectibles.
Early admission opens at 10 AM, and the first 100 visitors through the door receive free admission.
Before June Goes
From the sand sculptor’s chisel to the firefly cupped gently in a child’s hands, this weekend offers the kind of moments that are easy to miss when you stay indoors.
June is almost gone, but not before leaving Bucks County with one last full weekend worth stepping out for.
Whatever draws you out the door, the county will meet you there.
