Philadelphia is known for many things, with cheesesteaks being among them.
Ask someone where to go for the best cheesesteaks in the city and you may hear a dozen different responses.
But one particular cheesesteak spot in Philadelphia has hungry locals often going out of their way to get their hands of one of their sandwiches, according to a discovery plus India on YouTube.
That spot is Dalessandro’s Steaks in Roxborough.
Its owners are actually a family who were yearslong customers.
“We’ve been coming here for 25 years, been eating here as customers and then … we were lucky enough and blessed enough to buy it 8 to 9 years ago,” said Dalessandro’s co-owner Margie Kotridis.
The Kotridis family have kept things running the same as the founder did when the shop first opened its doors in 1961.
One way they have done so it through Dalessandro’s classic mushroom cheesesteak.
From the start, Dalessandro’s has always used fresh cut ribeye steak, which are placed onto the grill, and finely chopped without any additives.
“Our beef is so good, it doesn’t need seasoning,” said co-owner Steve Kotridis.
From there, Kotridis places slices of real American cheese sliced at the shop.
The mushrooms used for the cheesesteaks are often sautéed and seasoned from the beef.
Lastly, he uses a semi-soft roll with a crunchy exterior and soft interior to carry all the meat and toppings of the sandwich.
