New Interactive Map Puts Bucks County’s Revolutionary War History on the Trail

Reenactors recreate Washington's famous Delaware River crossing at Washington Crossing Historic Park in Bucks County.

Bucks County has launched a new interactive map showcasing the region’s deep ties to the Revolutionary War, just as the nation gears up for America’s 250th anniversary, writes Emily Neil for WHYY.

The Revolutionary War Trail map pinpoints more than a dozen historic sites across the county connected to the founding of the United States, from Washington Crossing Historic Park to Moland House in Warwick Township, where George Washington established his headquarters before the Battle of Brandywine in 1777.

The project is a partnership between the Bucks250PA Legacy Committee, the Bucks County Planning Commission, and the Bucks County Herald.

For Teresa Androutsos, vice-chair of the Bucks250PA Legacy Committee, the map had to be more than a tourist checklist. “We were very conscious of what we put on there,” she said. “We wanted to make sure every place had an experience for the visitor.”

That meant going beyond historic markers to places that tell a story. “We didn’t want to just send them to places, we wanted them to be meaningful,” Androutsos said.

Take Moland House. It sits along York Road, easy to miss despite the French and American flags out front. Most drivers have no idea they’re passing a site where Washington once plotted a pivotal campaign.

“You just don’t realize the importance of it,” Androutsos said.

The map is available in both digital and print formats, giving residents and visitors a new way to connect with the history right in their backyard.
