Under the Pier in Levittown is one of the region’s real hidden gems, known for serving some of the best fried scallops you will find anywhere around, writes Claire Allard for the Family Destinations Guide.
The unassuming white exterior conceals a space where seafood takes center stage. Inside, the inviting scent of freshly prepared dishes draws you in.
The space captures a coastal charm without tipping into kitsch, its wood-paneled walls adorned with old nets, anchors and weathered pieces of the sea. The tables, chairs and lighting are all understated.
While the menu has plenty to love, the fried scallops are what locals swear by. They’re plump and sweet, sealed inside a crisp, golden shell that gives the perfect crunch.
The kitchen’s secret lies in fresh sourcing and a feather-light batter that lifts the flavor instead of masking it, creating scallops so good they have become something of a local legend.
The menu has plenty of other standouts, including tender lobster tail, crispy fried shrimp and generous combination platters that serve up seafood medleys with something to please every taste.
