The team at Greatest Hits Records and Books in Media talked with Mike Jerrick at Fox 29 Philadelphia about their “Sounds of Delco Vol. 1” album, available May 15 on vinyl and through streaming.
“We get a lot of vintage sound effects records that come in the shop. And we’re really inspired by those,” said Jesse, one of the record producers.
Jesse, Dom, Victor and Betsy wanted to make their own effects record that captured the voices and sounds of Delco.
The album has a whopping 91 tracks featuring snippets of live sound and conversations, and in-studio voice actor recreations.
There are cheesesteaks at Phil & Jims, directions to Charlie’s Hamburgers, unwrapping a hoagie, a trolley on State Street, a truck hitting the 420 bridge, plus vintage sounds of the former Granite Run Mall and Pulsations from 1986.
The Eagles feature prominently on the album, including the E-A-G-L-E-S chant, the Broad Street Eagles win celebration, and sounds of hope and despair watching the Eagles play.
“Go Birds” ends many Delco conversations.
“No matter what the interaction is; positive, negative, nothing. People just say “Go Birds,” said Betsy, who lent her voice to some of the in-studio recordings.
