Doylestown teens Kate Schwarz and Declan Rose made a pact in fourth grade to go to prom together if they didn’t have dates, an agreement they’re upholding seven years later, reports Alex George for FOX 29 Philadelphia.
Rose recently delivered a sweet promposal featuring a box of doughnuts, one of Schwarz’s favorite treats.
“I got to ask my best friend Kate to prom which is just so cool. We’ve been friends since second grade so I’ve known her a long time and I feel like I couldn’t ask anyone better to go to prom with,” said Rose.
When the two met in second grade, they were a bit of a mismatched pair, something Rose’s mother, Patti, discussed. Rose was the tallest in their class, while Schwarz was the smallest.
Schwarz was born with primordial dwarfism and was diagnosed with a rare brain disease, Moyamoya. Because of the disease, she has suffered from several brain aneurysms, which have been treated with surgeries.
Despite the obstacles she’s faced, Schwarz has remained positive, receiving endless support from the pair’s unbreakable friendship.
“I think it’s great, friends come and go, I feel like everyone learns that in high school, but I’ve had Kate this whole time, and it’s awesome to have a friend that you can rely on and will always be there for you,” said Rose.
