Lawrenceville native Jamie Ding extended his Jeopardy! winning streak by beating another Philadelphia contestant, raising his total to 28 victories, writes Rob Tornoe for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The New Jersey public policy wonk has become one of the most successful contestants ever, now sitting just five straight wins away from overtaking James Holzhauer’s 32-win streak.
With $774,601 in winnings, Ding currently holds the fifth-highest total in Jeopardy! history, but for now remains well behind the current host Ken Jennings, who won $2.52 million over a 74-game streak in 2004.
The karaoke enthusiast also tied the long-standing record for most correct responses in a single game, reaching 45 in his third appearance.
“I don’t know if it’s entirely sunk in,” said Ding. “I really love history, and it’s cool to be making some history myself.”
During his streak, Ding has taken down multiple Philadelphia-area contestants, including software engineer Max Ernst, who kept things competitive into Final Jeopardy. He previously defeated Wharton School event planner Jessica Frankenfield, Penn graduate student Max Genecov, and Shannon Thomas, a manager at Philadelphia nonprofit Media Impact Funders.
