The Yardley Refillery recently received recognition from Lower Makefield Township’s Environmental Advisory Council, writes Dino Ciliberti for Patch.
Mayor Caroline Thompson of Yardley appeared before the township’s Board of Supervisors as the business was granted the Environmental Stewardship Award.
The refillery received a plaque and a $1,000 stipend, which it has donated to The River Keepers Network.
“And thanks to Lower Makefield Township for reaching across municipal lines to recognize our gem,” said Thompson.
The business opened in mid-November 2023, hosting a grand opening ceremony by the Lower Bucks County Chamber of Commerce that was attended by members of the community and local and state politicians.
The refillery replaced a gift shop in the borough’s downtown district at the corner of South Main Street and Afton Avenue.
“We are the first. It’s something we promote,” said owner Jaime Alford to Patch when they first opened.
Shoppers can find 500 different products to look through, with items like dry goods, coffee beans, birdseed, shampoo, and other supplies.
While there are similar businesses in South Jersey, Philadelphia, and one on the Main Line, their refillery is one of a kind in the county.
