Sellersville Man Shares Big Brother’s Story, Fundraiser Following Surgeries

After his dear friend Charlie Sharpe III suffered a brain bleed, Sellersville resident John Wilson set up a GoFundMe to share their story.

When Sellersville resident John Wilson almost lost his dear friend of over 50 years, Charlie Sharpe III, he was quick to jump into action, writes Michele Haddon for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Wilson grew up in Willingboro, N.J., and after his father’s passing and falling in with a bad crowd, his mother signed him up for their local Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

The pair attended the organization’s events and spent time working on everyday chores, forming an invaluable bond.

“He was just present. And through those things, we just talked and developed a relationship that has never broken,” said Wilson.

Sharpe was by Wilson’s side for every milestone, from childhood sports to the birth of Wilson’s three kids.

The pair had recently arrived in St. Maarten for a trip when Sharpe suffered seizures due to a brain bleed and was rushed to the hospital.

There, he was stabilized before being flown to a hospital in Miami, Fla., where he underwent four surgeries before eventually being transferred to a New Jersey facility for rehabilitation.

To help cover more than $100,000 in medical expenses, Wilson and Sharpe’s stepdaughter have launched a GoFundMe to assist Sharpe and his wife. As of March 23, they’ve raised nearly $43,000.
