The world’s best golfers will be in Newtown Square in just 49 days, descending on the Aronimink Golf Club for the PGA Championship, writes Nick Kariuki for Billy Penn.
“It’s really exciting knowing that you have 156 of the world’s best golfers in your backyard,” said tournament director Jackie Endsley.
He expects it to be a great opportunity for locals and those who haven’t been to a Championship to be part of the action.
The PGA Championship is one of four annual prestigious major tournaments in golf. It and the U.S. Open play in different locations around the U.S. each year.
The tournament runs from Thursday to Sunday, with golfers playing a round of 18 holes each day.
The Championship officially kicks off Monday, May 11, with the PGA HOPE Secretary’s Club, a tournament for veterans played at Chester Valley Golf Club in Malvern.
Aronimink practice rounds will take place Monday, May 11, to Wednesday, May 13, before the actual tournament begins Thursday, May 14.
Aronimink last hosted the PGA Championship in 1962.
Endsley looks forward to seeing passionate, but hopefully well-behaved, local fans this time around.
