Newtown native Alex Cooper, host of the widely popular Call Her Daddy podcast, has launched Unwell Creative Agency to help brands connect with her massive millennial and Gen Z audience, writes Jeff Beer for Fast Company.
As founder and CEO of Unwell, Cooper oversees a media company of about 100 employees that includes eleven podcasts, a film and production division with the upcoming reality show, Unwell Winter Games, launching on YouTube next month, live events, a clothing line, and a beverage brand.
While entering the creative agency space has proven difficult for celebrities such as Ryan Reynolds and Idris Elba, Cooper holds an advantage through the audience and brand she has built herself.
Now she has to show brands she can connect them with her audiences while maintaining authenticity with her long-term fans.
“Gen Z sniffs bullshit when it feels like, ‘Oh, you just took a brand deal because you got a lot of money for it,’” she said. “We don’t do that. We have turned down millions of dollars for [advertising and brand deals on] Call Her Daddy because it did not align with who our audience is.”
