Newtown businessman Jim Worthington recently presented updated sketch plans for the new Liberty Centre residential development coming to the heart of the borough, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.
The nine-acre parcel of land will house 125 high-quality rental units along Newtown Creek.
The redevelopment will feature a Town Square to host performances and community events, a greenway trail with a new pedestrian bridge to connect the borough and the township, and 55 public parking spots.
Since acquiring the land from Allan Smith, Worthington has removed the plans for restaurant and retail spaces.
While the original plans for the project, formerly known as Steeple View, featured a trail and plaza, Worthington has made some upgrades.
“The town square I’m proposing would take the town to the next level,” Worthington said. “We took the 5,000 square foot plaza and we’ve tripled the size of it. Every place we could improve on Allan’s plan, we did. We want it to be a real town center.”
Minno Wasko, a Lambertville firm, will be handling the design of the development.
“I have a big smile on my face tonight. I’m a Newtown Borough resident and this plan is going to be what Newtown needs in this location,” said David Minno of Minno Wasko.
