An animal sanctuary in Bucks County is working to save as many donkeys as they can, and they are looking for volunteers to help.
The Farmette, located in Pipersville, is a donkey and horse rescue and sanctuary that works to protect these animals and provide a better life for them.
According to their website, over 4 million donkeys are slaughtered each year worldwide, while the United States sees over 160,000 horses are annually shipped for slaughter.
“All with unique stories, the donkeys and horses living at The Farmette escaped being a part of these horrific statistics,” the sanctuary’s website reads.
“We are both a rescue, offering the adoption of animals to approved homes, as well as a sanctuary, providing a forever home for various animals.”
The sanctuary partakes in events year round. On July 19, Pine Run Retirement will bring residents of their memory care center to interact with the animals. They currently house 54 donkeys and 3 horses.
Those interested in working with the rescue can sponsor or adopt an animal to help them feel at home.
