Doylestown Native Nominated for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in First Year of Eligibility

Doylestown's Pink has been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility, releasing her debut album in 2000.

Doylestown native Pink has received a nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility, writes Dan DeLuca for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

She joins a group of seventeen impressive nominees this year, which includes Lauryn Hill, another artist with ties to the Philadelphia region, Phil Collins, Wu-Tang Clan, Oasis, Mariah Carey, Shakira, Jeff Buckley, Billy Idol, Sade, Melissa Etheridge, and others.

Of these, ten artists are first-time nominees. However, Pink, born Alecia Moore, is the only artist to make the list in her first year of eligibility.

This year’s list emphasizes pop stars, as the Cleveland institution seeks to draw younger audiences into its I.M. Pei-designed museum building by including current artists with a strong following among younger fans.

Pink is a natural fit in that sense, as her persona is far from old school or staid. Her signature move, which involves flying above the crowd while in an aerial harness during concerts, epitomizes the energy and vitality that the Rock Hall is looking for.

The induction ceremony for this year will be held in the fall.
