Modern Updates Merge with History at Dowlin House Family Home

The historic Dowlin House in Uwchlan Township has completed a restoration and expansion, reimagining the property as a modern family home.

The historic Dowlin House in Uwchlan Township has recently completed a major restoration and expansion, reimagining the property as a modern family home, writes Laurel Anderson for the County Lines Magazine

The home was part of a once-thriving community known as Dowlin Forge, which grew around an iron forge established in 1785 by Samuel Hibberd and bought by John Dowlin in 1801.

Built in 1799, the Dowlin House once belonged to an agricultural complex called White Acres Farm, west of North Creek Road. Over generations, it housed numerous families, with the current owners breathing new life into both the home and the surrounding farm.

John Milner Architects completed the renovation of the historic home under the guidance of firm Principal Joshua Kiehl, combining restoration of the original structure with construction of a substantial addition that nearly doubled the living space.

The original layout of the home largely remained intact, with careful attention paid to salvaging and reusing existing materials throughout the renovation.

A new transition space now links the historic structure to the addition, which includes a large modern kitchen, a family room, and a spacious primary suite set apart from the children’s bedrooms.
